Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X
When the LG-made Nexus 5X was unboxed in 2015 the RAM support was limited to 2GB but it turned out that the Pure Android device can be bumped up to 4GB. And one user is thanking the dreadful bootloop issue that plagues the device for the memory upgrade.
XDA Developers user Cathair2906 recently shared his rather problematic experience with the Nexus 5X, which apparently worked just fine but suddenly conked out when the device warranty expired. As widely reported, the device developed the bootloop glitch (the OS could not complete the loading cycle due to CPU hiccup) that rendered it unusable.

And compounding the woes of Cathair2906, "LG customer center from Hong Kong has rejected any maintenance of the CPU if outside its warranty." So the user thought of shipping the unit to China, where wonders of fixes come in unlimited supply.
As expected, the Nexus 5X was fixed and more. The repair man from China suggested that since the original has been addressed why not go step higher on the RAM department, purportedly for the unit to work faster and smoother. The owner agreed and the Nexus 5X was shipped back now boasting of RAM twice its original provision.
So far, the hardware modification seems working great. Cathair2906 said the beefed up Nexus 5X has no bugs or other issued normally attending in the aftermath of unsanctioned hardware bumps. And most importantly, the over-the-air or OTA process of the phone worked as intended.
A screenshot shared by the same user showed the Nexus 5X in question now runs Android Nougat version 7.1.2. Originally, the 5X was powered by Android Marshmallow version 6.0.1.
Yet according to 9to5Google, Cathair2906's experience can be regarded as s stroke of luck at best and that's saying similar modifications are unlikely to get the same result.
Still, RAM upgrade for the Nexus 5X seems worth the risk as attested by the XDA forum post. Setting aside the likely issues, such a move promises significant speed bump and adds a year or two on the unit's lifecycle, the report added.
