Mobile developer Gameloft has soft-launched its "Modern Combat Versus" game this week.  The game has appeared on the Philippine App Store as the company promised.

The game was first announced by Gameloft in October last year, and more details about the game were provided last week, but its exact release date was not given.  The game eventually got a soft-launch within the week.

The game is region-locked for now and can only be downloaded with a Philippine account.  It is expected to be released worldwide to other regions soon.

"Modern Combat Versus" is a free-to-play multiplayer first-person-shooter mobile game.  It is available now on iOS but will soon be released for Android as well.

The Gameloft FPS game will be free-to-play just like its series predecessor. "Modern Combat 5: Blackout" was launched as a paid app but changed to a free-to-play model when it turned out to be not as successful as previous games in the franchise.

"Modern Combat Versus" is part of the "Modern Combat" mobile game series developed by Gameloft.  There have been five previous games in the franchise.

The first "Modern Combat" game, "Modern Combat:Sandstorm," was released in 2009.  The last game in the series, "Modern Combat 5: Blackout," was released in 2014.

The previous five games in the franchise all had single-player storylines.  "Modern Combat Versus" will be the first entry in the series that will not have a single-player campaign. Gameloft apparently decided to focus its resources on only one component rather than splitting its efforts into both a single-player and multiplayer section of the game.

In the game, players will get to pick from a variety of different "Agents" who all have unique personalities, abilities, and roles to play on a team.  For the soft-launch, 12 different Agents will be available, broken up into four classes, namely, Attacker, Defender, Assassin, and Specialist.  The variety of Agents and different classes in "Modern Combat Versus" will allow a more team-oriented online gameplay.
