Apple is reportedly shipping more than 20 million units of new MacBooks this 2016, consisting of three screen size configurations and the release dates of which are spread out in the year. The last to come out is the rumored 15-inch MacBook that a new report said will begin mass production in the third quarter of the year.

The largest of the latest bunch of the MacBooks, DigiTimes said, is likely to become commercially available during the holiday quarter of 2016, which traditionally is the same period that Apple unleashes its fresh smartphone, tablet and computer models.

This 2016, the tech giant is forecast to push out the iPhone 7 and its phablet twin, the iPhone 7 Plus. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro is also expected to get a second generation at around the same time that the new iPhone will come out. Rumors say the iPad Air 3 will debut by April 2016 with the introduction likely to happen this March together with the 4-inch iPhone 5SE.

Back to the MacBook, DigiTimes claimed on its report that Apple is planning to offer the OS X-powered notebook in three flavors. Wholesale productions of the 12-inch and 13.3-inch versions are seen to start between March and April 2016, according to the Taiwan-based business publication.

The report, however, did not mention a specific release timing but it hinted that formal introductions could be made via the annual Apple Worldwide Developers Conference or WWDC, which normally takes place early June of the year.

As for the 15-inch MacBook, it is a near shoo-in as DigiTimes said on its report that supply chain sources pointed to mass production start no later than September 2016. The schedule positions the product release date anywhere between November and December though a slight delay or January 2017 rollout is not being discounted.

And with the iPad Pro 2 likely to come out during the 2016 holiday rush, the likelihood of the 11-inch MacBook Air being discontinued became more apparent. DigiTimes omitted the model from its list of MacBooks that will be manufactured in large-scale this 2016.
