The risk of cataract increases with each decade of life. This is why knowing some of the most effective cataracts surgical approaches would help widen your options.
Thanks to medical advancements, cataract removal can be performed in less than 30 minutes. One of the most common approaches is phacoemulsification, according to MedicineNet.

This technique requires no stitches to close the wound. As part of the surgical procedure, a numbing eye drop or an injection around the eye is used by experts. Afterward, no patch will be required.
Aside from the phacoemulsification, extracapsular cataract surgery is also an option. This procedure is mainly used for advanced cataracts, wherein the lens is too dense to dissolve into fragments. That is why phacoemulsification is not advised in such cases.
The technique involves a larger incision, which will let the cataract be removed in one piece without being fragmented inside the eye. Afterward, an artificial lens is placed in the same capsular bag.
One of the most basic techniques for cataract surgery is intracapsular cataract surgery. This technique requires a larger wound than the extracapsular technique as an intraocular lens would be placed in a different location, in front of the iris.
Meanwhile, according to the National Institute of Eye, the risk for cataract tends to increase around the age of 40. Half of the people aged 75 in the US have a cataract, according to Medgadget.
Failure to remove a cataract surgically will lead to blurry vision. If not remedied at an early stage, complete blindness may occur.
