China's humanoid robot Jia Jia failed to make a good impression during her first English-language live "interview" with Kevin Kelly, co-founder of the tech magazine Wired.
Although Jia Jia made some realistic blinks and smiled during the entire interview, the stunningly attractive robot stumbled when answering questions posed by Kelly, speaking after seconds-long delays. The dialogue was conducted via Skype from the University of Science and Technology in Hefei, Anhui province.

For instance, the interactive humanoid robot was not able to answer basic questions like the number of letters in the English Alphabet. It was also unable to provide specific answers, replying only "China" when asked where the Great Wall is located, according to the South China Morning Post.

Following the dialog, Chen Xiaoping, the leader of the team who developed Jia Jia, said that some of the questions thrown were "challenging," although the robot was able to give "good answers."
"There were some delays due to the [Skype] network. Apart from that, I think the conversation was successful," he said.
However, some users have expressed disappointment after watching the interview live streamed by Xinhua. Some have even compared Jia Jia to other artificial intelligence conversationalists like Apple's Siri and Amazon's Alexa.
Dubbed as a "robot goddess," Jia Jia is extremely realistic, featuring a beautiful face, a long wavy hair, and quite the body. It took the research team at least three years to create Jia Jia, including its humanoid robot features like speaking, natural eye movements, facial expressions, moving lips, and moving body.
The developers said in an interview last year that the robot can also learn skills and recognize human faces. Jia Jia is programmed to identify human interaction and is equipped with a cloud-based system for memory storage. She can also speak both English and Mandarin.
