The research team from John Hopkins University discovered that combination of vitamin D and exercise is associated with fewer stroke and heart attack cases.

A previous study has revealed that exercise and vitamin D consumption alone could decrease the risk of heart disease. In the new study, the researchers analyzed the impact of the two in the heart health when combined together.

The team has found that the levels of vitamin D in the body increases when exercising after observing 10,342 participants from Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities health records over the course of 20 years. The level of vitamin D in their body was measured through blood tests and asked to document their exercise activity.

Higher amount of nutrients seen to those who are more active, which only mean that there is a positive relationship between exercise and vitamin D. However, the researchers are uncertain if it is due to supplement, healthier diets, or actual change because of fitness.

Next, researchers observed the onset of cardiac events such as stroke and heart attack over the span of 19 years. Those who completed the prescribed daily activity and vitamin D levels had at least 23 percent of less chance of heart problems compared to those who did not. Furthermore, participants who exercised but lack in vitamin D did not decrease the risk of heart problems.

Erin Michos, M.D., M.H.S., and the co-author of the study, says those who have seasonal depression, at risk of bone diseases, and obese should visit first a physician to measure the vitamin D because it has a specific measurement in the blood. But, there are also natural ways to get vitamin D in the body like sun exposure, healthy diet, and maintain the normal body weight.

Health experts also suggest egg yolks, fatty fish, and fortified milk could help the body in getting enough nutrients.
