Microsoft introduced its HoloLens augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) headset last year, but the tech giant has already teased several applications including video games and business tools. The official tech sponsor of the National Football League (NFL) is now introducing a new NFL-centered concept just before the kickoff of Super Bowl 50 that could revolutionize how HoloLens users watch preseason or champions games.

In the future NFL fans could use the AR/VR headset to improve their game-day football experience from the comforts of their living room. For example, before a game the HoloLens user could use hand gestures to see a 3D hologram that shows a stadium's current weather and attendance figures, according to Engadget.

In another video clip in the "Future of Football" video a HoloLens user views fantasy football statistics that include motion graphics. A hologram of the Seattle Seahawks' running back Marshawn Lynch shows stats including the football player's height and weight.

Users of Microsoft's AR headset can also see 3D figures showing the game's plays. In the video they appear as holograms on the football fans' coffee table.  

Microsoft admits that the new concept for its mixed reality headset has not become reality yet, and in many HoloLens videos exaggerate how the mixed-reality images actually appear. In fact, the viewing area of HoloLens goggles is a small rectangle in front of the user, according to Business Insider.

However, the concept could give football fans a brand new experience cheering for their favorite team on game day. In theory most of the uses of the AR headset in the video are possible, according to Re/code.     

The Bill Gates co-founded company recently announced that HoloLens will run on any Windows 10 app and will roll out during Q1 of 2016. Its VR headset will be totally wireless and use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.  

Meanwhile, the device's field of view will be like a 15-inch monitor two feet away from the user's face. That will reduce the HoloLens price and give the gadget a long battery life.   

Microsoft's AR/VR headset will also have a 5.5-hour battery life during average usage. However, it could run for about 2.5 hours during heavy usage.
