The specs, price and release date of the Microsoft Surface Phone may be unveiled at the upcoming Microsoft Event in Shanghai. The Surface Pro 5 could also be introduced at the event.

Talks of the Microsoft Event have been making rounds online. The event, which will be held on May 23, will see the introduction of new Surface devices including the rumored Microsoft Surface Phone, according to Trusted Reviews.

The device is said to be Microsoft's response to the increasing popularity of Apple and Android mobile devices. With the not so successful Lumia series, the Surface Phone is reportedly the company's way of re-introducing itself in the mobile industry.

The device would reportedly not come with the usual look and features of smartphones. The company took a different approach in designing their upcoming mobile device, making it quite different from the devices currently on the market.

"We make phones today, we have OEMs like HP making phones and others, and we picked a very specific area to focus on which is management, security, and this one particular feature that we have called Continuum, which is a phone that can even be a desktop," BGR quoted a Microsoft executive saying.

However, there is still no confirmation about the possible build and features of the upcoming Microsoft Surface Phone. The device is expected to be a combination of PC and phone, probably a mini version of the Surface line-up.

However, another scenario is also possible with the upcoming Microsoft Event. If the Surface Phone is not available, experts believe that the Surface Pro 5 will be introduced.
