There are some cases that a task may require glancing towards a separate monitor or paper. This could strain the eye as it would need to refocus from time-to-time.
To avoid this, if referring to a text on paper while working with a computer, it is better to place the paper beside the monitor and not beside the keyboard. By doing so, you will decrease the distance that your sight would have to travel. Therefore, decreasing eyestrain, according to VeryWell.
Aside from eyestrain and focusing issues, illumination within your working environment could also trigger a headache. Sun-filled windows, overhead fluorescent lights, and desk lamps are factors to consider. But also avoid working in an overly illuminated environment.
Another thing that can give you a headache is your posture. Poor posture can cause a headache as it would strain the cervical neck. To alleviate this, adjust the position of your shoulder while typing. You may also adjust the monitor angle and height so that you will not over-engaging your neck muscles.
Since the eye is not designed to handle too many stressful activities like other muscle or body parts, it is highly advised that you take regular breaks. Try to blink frequently to prevent dry eyes, which could also contribute to eyestrain.
If you still experience a headache after following the tips above, then consult an eye doctor.
