Android 7.0 Nougat Update Now Rolling Out for Unlocked Galaxy S7 in US, S7 Edge in UK
More than a year after it first hit the market, the unlocked Samsung Galaxy S7 in the U.S. has started getting the Android 7.0 Nougat update and the same goes for the Galaxy S7 Edge in the UK. The OS bump came weeks after the Galaxy S8 global rollout and just a few day before the next Android version is revealed by Google.

That the unlocked GS7 getting Nougat at a time that Google is about ready to move up to Android 8.0 only highlighted the state of the mobile OS' update process - notoriously disjointed. Per Android Authority, the Nougat deployment to Samsung's 2017 flagship is something of a puzzle, specifically in the case of users in the United States.
In previous years, unlocked Galaxy flagship phones get a first taste of the Android OS update but not in the case of the unlocked Galaxy S7, U.S. edition. The device got Nougat three months late or way behind from the firmware updates that came from American telcos.
It should be that "the lack of carrier intervention with the unlocked handset should mean less red tape and thus, a quicker release to the end user," Phone Arena said. But this did not apply for the GS7 and it appears to be the same case for users of the Galaxy S7 Edge in the United Kingdom.
"For those in the UK, Nougat is also said to be trickling out to the unlocked Galaxy S7 Edge," the report added.
For certain, Sammy fans are just too happy that they finally getting a bite of Nougat just before Android 8.0 is officially unveiled. Android Authority said the update weighs around 1.2GB and available OTA or over-the-air.
Since the update file is relatively big, it's best to make sure that the device to be bumped has sufficient space available, Phone Arena said, adding users need charge up their handsets prior to installation and trigger the update process using a stable Wi-Fi connection for a smooth experience.
While Samsung is yet to confirm, the Android Nougat update for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge is now live so users yet to see the prompt can start the process manually by heading to Settings and About device to make the update happen.
