The setting of "Far Cry 5", or whatever the next "Far Cry" game ends up being called, has apparently leaked online in the most unconventional way.
It starts with a news story from the Great Falls Tribune, writing up about a church in Poplar, Montana being filmed for promotional purposes for an untitled video game set for a September release. LA-based producer Jeff Guillot described the game as a "sequel to an existing global franchise," and worked with 11 other crew members that included people from Paris.

This all indicates the trailer is for a Spaghetti Western game or at least a game set in 19th century America. Everyone immediately assumed this is for "Red Dead Redemption 2". It's the only game with a Western setting in development we know of, after all, VG 24/7 reports.
However, the inclusion of a new town called "Hope City" nixed that idea. It was there that the rumors of "Far Cry 5" taking place in the American Great Plains started to click together, as another user pointed to an early 2015 Ubisoft poll that asked about future "Far Cry" settings.
As per Game Transfers, it should be noted that the hypothesis of a "Far Cry" set in the Western era had already been suggested by Ubisoft in a survey, but according to other rumor the game in question would not be "Far Cry 5" but a new "Call of Juarez".
For now, this "Far Cry 5" rumor remains in flux. If there's going to be any confirmation from Ubisoft, it's likely to come in the next month as E3 2017 approaches in early June.
