Samsung has finally responded after news reports revealed that its new Galaxy S8 is facing some major security issues.

"We are aware of the issue, but we would like to assure our customer that the iris scanning technology in the Galaxy S8 has been developed through rigorous testing to provide a high level of accuracy and prevent attempts to compromise its security, such as images of a person's iris," the company said in an issued statement to Gizmodo on Tuesday.

It further assured its Samsung Galaxy S8 owners that "If there is a potential vulnerability or the advent of a new method that challenges our efforts to ensure security at any time, we will respond as quickly as possible to resolve the issue."

The statement follows after security researchers at Berlin's Chaos Computer Club (CCC) showed in a video how Samsung Galaxy S8's iris scanning technology could easily be pulled off by merely using a camera, a contact lens, and a printer. They found that the supposedly secure system could easily be tricked by a photo of a user's eye.

After taking a snap using a digital camera in an infra-red night vision setting, researchers printed the image and placed a contact lens over the snap. A video released by the team showed how the photo was able to unlock the Samsung Galaxy S8 and give access to all of the users' private files.

That being said, Dirk Engling, CCC's spokesperson, advised Samsung Galaxy S8 users to resort to the traditional PIN protection if the phone contains valuable and sensitive data.

Meanwhile, Samsung's website still claims that the users' irises are "virtually impossible to replicate" making it one of the safest ways to secure the device and kept all its contents private.

Samsung Galaxy S8, which was dropped last month, features a stunning 5.8-inch near edge-to-edge Infinity Display. It sports a 12-megapixel camera, a new oct-core processor, and the latest Android 7.0 Nougat system.
