New updates for "Destiny 2" will have no matchmaking features and Bungie explains why Guardian levels are going back to zero.
It seems that Bungie will not add the matchmaking feature for "Destiny 2" in a traditional sense, and instead will introduce a new game mode called "Guided Games" that is meant to bring players together for challenging activities.

"Destiny 2" project lead Mark Noseworthy told GameRant his reasons why Bungie feels matchmaking does not work and he explained that it will be "incompatible" in the sequel due to randomly teaming with players rarely work in the player's favor.
Noseworthy also shared some info about how "Guided Games" will support a variety of players with a variety of interests. Bungie feels that no matter where players may come down on the issue of "Destiny 2" having to matchmake, it is hard to argue with Noseworthy’s points, as "Destiny’s" endgame is challenging and it requires a very specific mindset, so putting players together that are incompatible will likely lead to certain problems for each player.
Guided Games in "Destiny 2" will offer players and teams an in-game searching option whereby they can fill out their fireteam. But like an LFG, the new game mode does not simply match two random players together; it lets a seeker or group match with someone that fits their style.
Meanwhile, Bungie also explains their reasons for having the player's Guardian level come back to zero as they felt that going back from scratch will help them have a compelling journey.
Light levels are also being wiped from "Destiny 2," as Bungie forces everyone to start their journey again. It will be a welcome move for some players of the original game, who found developer's constant tweaking of levels, loot and currency to be confusing, unbalanced and esoteric.
Other players will no doubt be upset that their strongest Guardian, which they have built for three years are going back to start, but there is some consolation to it as gamers can bring their class and subclass over to "Destiny 2," if they so wish and keep some of their looks provided it is not influenced by weapon and gear design.
Noseworthy explained that the goad for Guardians to go back from the start is that he wants everyone to get back on the “wheel” of picking themselves up, battling the odds and building up to another personalized character build, giving fans something to be intrigued and interested, VG 24/7 reported.
"Destiny 2" is set to launch on Sept. 8, 2017, for the PS4 and Xbox One, while the PC version will be release at a later date.
