iPhone and Charger
Apple has reportedly teamed up with a company to develop extended range wireless chargers for its future iPhone devices. Energous' innovative technology uses radio frequencies to charge mobile devices up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) away.
The two companies have not officially formed a partnership. However, Louis Basenese's report for Disruptive Tech Research has found a large amount of proof that seems to suggest they are teaming up, according to Mac Rumors.

Basenese notes that Apple has only filed five patents for wireless charging tech, and none since 2013. This could imply the tech giant is working with another company to develop new smartphone charging technology.
Basenese also points out there is some evidence that Apple is working with Energous. They include the two companies' membership in the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) testing if wireless power transfer meets requirements, and having some of the same manufacturing partners.
Energous' long-distance wireless charging system based on its WattUp tech is also the only one almost ready for launch. In addition, last year the company announced it teamed up with one of the world's top 5 consumer electronic companies, according to Ubergizmo.
Bloomberg recently suggested that Apple was searching for wireless charging solutions that would end the need for placing iPhones and iPads on mats or near charging devices. WattUp transmitters can juice up devices up to 15 feet away. In addition, they can charge a maximum of 12 devices simultaneously including smartphones, tablet computers, and wearable gadgets.
WattUp uses a WiFi-like tech to charge any battery-powered device. It must need less than 10 watts to function.
Apple could use other long-distance charging solutions. However, the problem is that systems such as Ossia's radio frequency (RF)-based Cota will not be rolled out by Apple's 2017 soft launch deadline.
RF distance charging seems to be in the most developed compared to other methods. However, it is always possible that the California-based company has a top-secret program that it is working on at its California headquarters' secret lab.
Apple's new wireless charging tech could be included in smartphones that follow the launch of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. They will likely roll out in September 2016.
