McDonald's Kale Salad
McDonald's kale salad topped with Asiago Caesar Dressing contains more salt, calories, and fat than a Big Mac sandwich with two beef burgers and high-fat sauce. Lettuce, parmesan cheese, and grilled or fried chicken are included on the fast food chain's new menu item.
The Golden Arches recently launched the "Keep Calm, Caesar On" chicken salad. It brags that it contains real cheese and healthy baby kale.

However, the crispy chicken version and Caesar dressing change the nutritional value of the dish to 730 calories and 53 grams of fat. The chicken salad's calories are equal to about three McDonald's regular hamburgers.
This is not the first time a fast-food dish advertised as "healthy" turned out to be worse to eat than infamously unhealthy menu items. However, it shows a growing trend of restaurant meals being bad for people's health.
A recent study revealed that 92 percent of various restaurant chains and family-run restaurants served meals with more calories than a healthy meal, according to Ars Technica. |The study included over 360 meals including Italian, Mexican, and Japanese cuisine in cities such as Boston and San Francisco.
In 123 of the restaurants at least one entrée had more calories than the recommended daily amount for one day. That did not include appetizers, desserts, or drinks.
American, Chinese, and Italian dishes had the most calories. They contained an average of 1,495 calories per meal.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) completed a similar study. It found that fast food restaurants had more healthy menu items than sit-down restaurants.
McDonald's new kale salad is part of its goal to change its image of being an unhealthy fast food restaurant. That was in part a response to the 2004 documentary "Super Size Me."
The low-calorie green leafy vegetable is in fact full of vitamins and minerals, according to CBC. Canadian McDonald's have added the veggie to a line of salads and a breakfast wrap.
In other McDonald's news a California man has filed a $5 million lawsuit against the fast food giant. Chris Howe argued its new cheese sticks do not contain real mozzarella cheese based on federal standards. He claims 3.76 percent of the cheese is starch filler.
