While some people and lawmakers are calling for marijuana legalization in their respective states, some people are silently fighting their own marijuana addiction. Despite the hype and trend going on, there are some individuals trying to leave behind their addiction.

Admitting to one's self the addiction they have is a difficult thing to do. However, such admission is just a start, for there many things to do in order to fully shackles of cannabis.

Clinical psychologist and professor at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, California, Lynn E. O'Connor Ph.D., shared some of the best practices in approaching the issue of addiction. She believes that addiction to weed is a disease, and whatever mistakes a person might have committed during such state is not entirely his fault.

Addiction highjacks the brain, so as the faculty of a person to make the right decision. That is why steps are to be made in order to renew one's life and correct a person's way of thinking.

Dr. O'Connor, in her article, highlighted the importance of acknowledging the process. The recovery process may take time, and in some cases, it would even take at least three years for cannabis addiction to be broken.

Secondly, one should also identify the factors that led him or her to use weed. Such identification would likely necessitate joining group meeting like Marijuana Anonymous or MA to help you identify these factors and guide you to a better cognitive and behavioral habits.

Lastly, the emphasis on seeking support was also highlighted. It is essential to seek professional and social support while dealing with such addition. With the help of experts and the people around you, dealing with marijuana addiction will likely be easier than doing it alone.

As of the current writing, more and more people are reportedly seeking help from marijuana addiction. The said increase does not include court-mandated public sector addiction treatment, but rather people voluntarily seeking help.
