San Andreas Fault in California (YouTube)
Mega-quake powerful and bigger than the nuclear bomb used in World War 2 could hit California and scientists believed that this kind of event already happened before.
Previous signs of colossal earthquakes observed in San Andreas Fault - extending 800 miles up to the West Coast - indicates increased the risk of "The Big One." Geologists warned people that a massive temblor could destroy highways, railways, and most importantly, the sources of oil and gas.

Evidence of large earthquake has been found by researchers and fears that it could be powerful enough to strike Los Angeles and San Francisco. US Geological Survey (USGS) Experts predict that "The Big One" will have a strength of magnitude 8.2 on the Richter scale. That means that the quake carries more energy compared to the nuclear bomb that the US dropped on Hiroshima. Areas affected by the state could also be destroyed for about 30ft chasms in just a matter of seconds.
According to the report from LA Times, research geologists from USGS, Kate Scharer, said that the energy generated by the massive earthquake on San Andreas Fault is similar to the size of a small nuclear bomb. Scharer has been studying the pathways of canyons over the state which has been destroyed due to massive seismic forces - indicates that a huge temblor has already rocked in California and it would happen again.
Scharer also said that predicting an earthquake is challenging as it does not happen in clockwork. Recently, she published a study stating that the section of California near LA is overdue for a large earthquake for 60 years. Huge earthquakes happen every one hundred years, and it has been 160 years since the last "Big One."
Lucy Jones, a seismologist, also believes that a magnitude 8.2 earthquake triggers chaos in California as everybody will be affected at the same time because of the stretching fault. The temblor generated by the San Andreas Fault can cause damage to every city.
