Alzheimer's, Parkinson's Disease, ALS or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis are some of the most common forms of neurological diseases that are being studied in the search for a cure. A recent study suggests that yeast may hold the cure for usual brain disorders.

Researchers from the United States are now on the brink of a potential significant medical breakthrough. They believed that a cure for Alzheimer's disease and some of the most common brain disorders is found in yeast.

A chemical substance, known as Hsp104, could dissolve clump of proteins. These misfolded proteins have been known as the culprits behind a form of motor neuron disease called ALS, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's Disease, and other brain disorders.

As of the current writing, there is no known method to untangle the knotted mass of the said proteins. Current technology would always fall short in fully treating the said diseases.

However, Professor James Shorter believes that his decade of work with the yeast molecule Hsp104 may soon change the current medical practice in addressing such forms of neurological diseases. As seen on the images of its mechanism, the said yeast molecule targets proteins that have folded into the wrong shape, leading to Parkinson's and Alzheimer's Disease.

"This superb collaboration has yielded the highest resolution picture of Hsp104 caught in the act of processing a protein. We can now see the moving parts of the Hsp104 complex and how we might tune it to optimally attack neurodegenerative disease proteins," The Express quoted Prof. Shorter as saying. Meanwhile, early detection of the disease is still considered as one of the highly effective ways of properly managing its impact. One of the most common signs of an Alzheimer's disease, for example, is the worsened ability to take in and remember new information, according to Medical News Today.
