Xiaomi Redmi is a very successful phone series from the company so far. The company just launched its next phone in the Redmi lineup - the Redmi 3 - in China, which is an upgraded version of the previously released Redmi 2 Prime.
Now let's compare the two phones to find which should we buy between them.

Processor
The Redmi 2 Prime is powered by a Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, backed with an Adreno 306 GPU. The newer Redmi 3, on the other hand, runs on a Snapdragon 616 octa-core processor backed by an Adreno 405 GPU.
Display
Both the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime and Xiaomi Redmi 3 are 720p smartphones, with Redmi 3 having 5-inch IPS LCD display and Redmi 2 Prime having 4.7-inch IPS LCD panel.
Camera
The Redmi 3 has a 13 megapixel primary shooter with autofocus and LED flash, while its secondary camera is a 5 megapixel shooter. Redmi 2 Prime, on the other hand, has an 8 megapixel primary shooter with autofocus plus a 2 megapixel selfie shooter.
RAM and Storage
Both smartphones has 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage. The only difference comes in the part of expandable storage, as the Redmi 3 supports microSD card up to 128 GB, while the Redmi 2 Prime only supports SD card up to 32 GB, which is a deal breaker for some.
Battery and Connectivity
Redmi 3 has a bigger 4100 mAh battery (non-removable) while Redmi 2 Prime holds a removable 2200 mAh battery capacity. Both Xiaomi Redmi 3 and Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime have 4G LTE connectivity and supports WIFI 802.11b/g/n. When it comes to other feature, Redmi 3 supports Bluetooth 4.1 while the Redmi 2 Prime only supports Bluetooth 4.0.
Operating System
Redmi 3 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box with Xiaomi's MIUI 7.0, whereas the Redmi 2 Prime was launched with Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box.
Price
Redmi 2 Prime was launched for $102 (Rs.6999) in India, while Redmi 3 is priced at around $107 (CNY 699) in China, which is an estimated Rs.7200. Note that the Indian price of the device may vary.
