On Feb. 11, Square Enix announced the release of “Final Fantasy IX” on the Android and iOS platform.
Lauded as one of the best, if not the best "Final Fantasy" game in the well-beloved franchise, "Final Fantasy IX" has finally arrived to the mobile gaming platform. On Feb. 11, Square Enix announced the release of "Final Fantasy IX" on the Android and iOS platform.
The new mobile version of "Final Fantasy IX" has "high definition movies and character models." It also includes achievements, autosave feature and a collection of seven "game boosters" or cheats that allow players to speed up time or even disregard random mob encounters.

The game can be downloaded on the Apple App Store for iOS devices and on the Google Play Store for Android devices. Both the iOS and Android versions of the game cost $17.
According to PC Mag, the $17 price tag is for a limited time only as the game's price is expected to rise by as much as 20 percent on Feb. 21. Interested gamers are advised to purchase the game as soon as they can to take advantage of the discounted price.
While the price tag is a bit expensive for a mobile game, especially something that was first released in 2000, gamers are assured that they will purchase the full game and no other extra fees will be charged for in-app purchases.
"Final Fantasy IX" requires iOS devices to run on at least iOS 7.0 or later versions. For Android devices, they must run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean or newer versions.
The full game takes about 8GB of storage space since all the contents and cut scenes were redone in high definition. The game also requires at least 4GB of memory for optimum gaming experience.
Square Enix first revealed its plans to release "Final Fantasy IX" to mobile devices in December 2015, according to Engadget. The company is also planning to release the game in Steam in order to reach the desktop gaming community.
As its name suggest, "Final Fantasy IX" is the ninth title in the "Final Fantasy" franchise. It was released in 2000 for the PlayStation console. By the end of 2000, the game was able to sell more than 2.65 million copies in Japan alone. As of March 2013, more than 5.30 million copies of "Final Fantasy IX" were sold worldwide.
