The Apollo 10 command module Charlie Brown is seen from the lunar module Snoopy after separation in lunar orbit.
Astronanuts of the lunar Apollo missions particularly those who went into lunar orbit before the historic moon landing reported to have heard mysterious outer space type of music, during a flyby of the dark side of the moon in May 1969.

This "moon music" can be described as a bizarre, whistling noise that is still unexplained until now, which will now be revealed in an upcoming episode of "NASA's Unexplained Files" series, courtesy of the Science Channel.
This new episode is focusing on this strange event that were observed by the Apollo 10 astronauts during a mission involving a flyby over the moon, entering lunar orbit from a distance of 5,000 feet from the surface of the moon, to prepare for the historic Apollo 11 moon landing, two months later.
The Apollo 10 crew members, Tom Stafford, John Young and Eugene Cernan, are talking about the odd sounds as they decide over whether to tell NASA about this phenomenon. One of them says, it sounds like outer space type of music, and another member asks, should we tell NASA about it?, another one replied, I don't know, we should think about it.
To date, there are no recordings of the astronauts discussing about this noise to NASA or to the public. It is also not yet confirmed whether the astronauts did hear this strange noise every time they passed around the far side of the moon or during other Apollo missions. After the Apollo 11 mission , Young eventually returned to the moon and walked on the surface of it when he became the commander of Apollo 16. Cernan also became a commander for the Apollo 17 mission, where he became the last man to walk on the moon. Stafford returned back to space but never returned to lunar orbit.
After the Apollo 11 mission, scientists were able to obtain these recordings that were sent back to mission control, transcribed and archived them and remained classified, following protocol. However, this recording of the astronauts' conversation was unearthed in 2008.
The tapes apparently recorded during May 1969 while Stafford, Young and Cernan were located in the far side of the moon, which is out of reach from communications back on Earth. This whistling sound lasted almost an entire hour during the time the astronauts were out of reach with ground mission control.
According Andrew Chaikin who is an author and science journalist, technicians would speculate how this sound could have originated from VHF radio interference on the command module while communicating with the lunar module. However, not everyone is convinced.
According to Apollo 15 Command Module Pilot, Al Worden, the Apollo 10 crew is very used to the sounds that they are expected to hear during the mission. He says, logic is telling me that if there was something recorded on there, then there is something out there.
