List verse mentions that it is ironical that Brown was associated with discovery of a ninth planet. This is because he had played a key role in downgrading Pluto's erstwhile status of a ninth planet to a dwarf planet in 2005.
Mail Online reported that Brown and Batygin's conclusion on a ninth planet is based on mathematical modeling and computer simulations. According to Popular Science, unusual alignment of dwarf planets with peculiar orbits was one of the strongest hints that indicated presence of a large planet with enormous gravitational field.
Based on evidence presented so far, Lists verse notes that the new ninth planet shall be extremely large in size. It is speculated to be around ten times bigger than Earth and five thousand times bigger than Pluto. Numerous reported that the new ninth planet may take 10,000 to 20,000 years for one revolution around the sun.
It is said that the new ninth planet is located extremely far away. It was mentioned that NASA's New Horizons spaceship reached Pluto after nine years and a spaceship would likely take 54 years to reach the new planet. It is speculated that it would take a very powerful telescope to locate the new planet. It was also reported that the search for the ninth planet has already begun with Subaru telescope in Hawaii.
Numerous reports added a note of caution to present speculations about the new planet. It mentions that at present, a massive ninth planet is a hypothetical explanation for unusual clustering of astronomical objects. Until this ninth planet is observed, it would be difficult to confirm its discovery.
Many astronomers, however, are optimistic about finding the new planet. Speaking to Guardian, astrophysicist Chris Lintott mentioned that Brown and Batygin's paper on ninth planet was "detailed and convincing."
