Xbox Live's new cross-platform feature supports Xbox One, Windows 10, and even PlayStation Network players connecting online to play video games. Sports-Action game Rocket League will be the first game that includes the new feature for the Xbox One gaming console. The Washington State-based OS giant is also giving developers the ability to support cross-networking gaming.

ID@Xbox director Chris Charla made the announcement on the official Xbox website. He explained that game developers can add the feature if they have the inclination, and Microsoft gamers will always have the option to play with other Xbox Live players.
The cross-network feature allows Xbox Live players using Xbox One and Windows 10 to play with gamers on other web-based multi-player networks that include other gaming consoles and PC networks, according to Game Spot.
Psyonix's Rocket League is the first game that will feature the cross-platform functionality that allows Xbox One gamers to compete against PC players. In the future developers could add the feature to titles such as FIFA or Call of Duty.
Rocket League now supports multi-platform play between PS4 and desktop versions of the game but the feature was not available when the game launched on Xbox One. At the time Psyonix announced that cross-play matchmaking usually was not allowed for any of the developer's titles.
Microsoft has limited cross-platform play for Xbox Live since it was the first popular multi-player network for game consoles, according to Tech Crunch. PlayStation Network was launched in 2006 and not available until PlayStation 3.
The tech giant's move could turn out to be good business. It could add more players for titles that are not big hits and encourage gamers to buy 2013-launched Xbox One even if their friends and relatives have PlayStation 4.
Xbox fans will have the option to limit multi-player modes to Xbox players. This would be an option for players who want to limit their gameplay to fellow Microsoft console players.
In other Xbox news, Xbox 2 will be released in a few years and limited details have been released by Microsoft, according to Tech Radar. It could be connected closely to PCs and the augmented reality (AR)/virtual reality (VR) HoloLens headset. However, it will be difficult to catch up with Sony's PlayStation's big lead.
