The original Acura NSX sports a mid-mounted V6 engine that can output as much as 290 horsepower on a rear-wheel drive configuration. On the other hand, the 2017 NSX has a new 3.5-liter V6 twin turbocharged engine that has a massive 500 horsepower output and 406 pound-foot worth of torque.
It appears that engineers from Honda are not only bumping up the engine of the new NSX but they also integrated a small electric motor into the V6 engine and then pair it with two more electric motors on the front axle. The result is a total power output of 573 horsepower and 476 pound-foot of torque.
With all these firepower under the hood, the complete NSX package weights at 3,803 pounds which some car analysts consider to be more like of a muscle car than the NSX. What is more impressive is that despite the massive weight, the 2017 NSX still sprints like a monster.
Thanks to its impressive launch control and all-wheel drive system, the 2017 Acura NSX can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in exactly three seconds flat.
Not much was revealed regarding the lithium-ion batteries that power the electric motors of the NSX. However, experts believe that the car does not require owners to plug it in order to charge the batteries. Instead, the battery are constantly charged through regenerative braking of the three MGUs. The 2017 Acura NSX gets a combine drive rating of 21 mpg combined, according to Jalopnik.
In terms of price, the Acura NSX is quite expensive. Once it hits the market, it will have a price tag of $156,000 for the base model and more options and perks means that the price can shoot up as fast as the cars acceleration. According to Ars Technica, with all the options included, the new NSX is expected to have a price tag closer to $200,000 and this will include carbon fiber, ceramic brakes and high end paints.
