Microsoft Edge extensions could be on the way very soon after the software giant launched the official website then took it down soon after.
Browser extension for Microsoft Edge web browser is on the way folks. We do not have a specific date, but we do know it is coming soon. This feature is something many have wanted from Microsoft ever since the release of the browser back in 2015.
We know that Microsoft came close to testing extension support for Edge back in 2015, but the company decided to push the feature into early 2016. Now we're hearing from MSPoweruser that the software giant could be preparing to launch the feature to Insiders.

Apparently, the official website for Microsoft Edge, known as Microsoft Edge Extensions, went live recently, but it was quickly taken down by Microsoft. The company did a similar thing back December of last year, the only difference with this website is the option to download extensions.
When the website was live, only three extensions were available. Outside of the Reddit extension that is known as RES, the others are not that popular on competing platforms.
Here is the interesting thing, all Edge extensions will be able to work in Google Chrome. Some folks might be wondering why is this the case, well, the software giant has made it very easy for Chrome extension developers to port their work to Edge, so it makes sense extensions made for Edge would also work in Chrome.
When it comes down to where users will be able to download Edge extensions, we understand this will be done from the Windows Store. It is clear that the store will be the main portal for everything Windows 10 in the future. At the moment, it is the only spot to download Windows 10 apps, movies and TV shows.
Despite that, extensions in the early days won't be available from the Windows Store. When the beta comes out, users will be asked to install the extensions manually, which means the process won't be straightforward when compared to downloading Chrome extensions.
If everything goes according to plan, we could see the launch of extensions for beta testing in the coming months. The feature is long overdue, and is one of the reasons most folks have decided not to use Edge
