Uber wants the whole family to get in on the fun that is ride-sharing, and to do that, the company came up with the Family Profile plan and it is genius.
Uber has a new feature, and it is all about having an entire family share a single account. The feature is called Family Profiles, and it might just turn out to be the best thing Uber has added in a very long time.
Using Family Profiles means that any member of your family that has been added can take advantage of the ride-sharing service, no problem. Instead of using their own credit card, they would instead use the one that is linked with the single account.

Nevertheless, the option is there for folks to switch between their personal profiles or their Family Profiles should they wish. It means that a person can decide to use their own credit card when taking a ride, or the credit card linked to the Family Profiles feature.
Should this feature take off, we could see parents using it to give their children a quick way to request and pay for rides to and from school. As expected, the child will need to have a smartphone along with the app to take advantage of Family Profiles, and by now, most children should already have a smartphone and know how to use it.
We should point out that Family Profiles feature does not require any form of proof to tell if person's you hope to add are indeed truly part of the family. This means, users can have their friends or anyone else in on the fun.
Here's everything you'll need, according to Uber:
- Make sure you have the latest version of the Uber app.
- Go to Menu and choose Settings.
- Scroll down to "Add a Family Profile" and select the contacts you would like to add.
- As soon as the Family Profile rider accepts the invitation, they can begin requesting rides from their own phone using the Family Profile as their payment method.
- The cost of the trip will automatically be billed to the Family Profile and the organizer will receive a receipt for every ride.
Once you're part of a Family Profile, just request and pay for a ride as usual. Nothing new to learn, no restrictions, just ride along and have fun.
In other news, Uber is shopping around for a self-driving car sleet of its own, according to USA Today.
