Killing the Windows version of Tweetdeck should come as a surprise to no one seeing as the company stop supporting the Android and iOS versions of the app since 2013.

Some users may not be in agreement with this, but Twitter is putting the Windows version of the Tweetdeck app to rest. This is not the end of the app since support for the web version will still continue as normal.

Not too long ago, Twitter released an update to the Windows 10 version of the app, adding several features already available on Android and on iOS. The app is also now Universal, which means the same experience on Windows 10 will be available on Windows 10 Mobile.

Killing the Windows version of Tweetdeck should come as a surprise to no one seeing as the company stop supporting the Android and iOS versions of the app since 2013. We're guessing this had everything to do with the app's popularity, and for Twitter to do this now, then it must mean the app's popularity has waned over the years.

When it comes down to other versions of Tweetdeck, the Chrome and Mac OS versions are still being supported. However, after seeing what has happened to the Windows version, we have to wonder, how long before Twitter decides to end support for those apps.

To make things even more interesting, how long before the company considers ending Tweetdeck completely? Handling both the Twitter app and Tweetdeck is likely a strain on developers. We believe several features from Tweetdeck will be brought over to the official Twitter app, and then Tweetdeck will become irrelevant.

Over the years, Tweetdeck has become popular with social media workers and hardcore Tweetdeck users. It provides additional functionality not found in the official Twitter app, and only a few third-party apps can compare.

For those wondering, Tweetdeck was launched back in 2008, and acquired by Twitter in 2011 due to its growing popularity.

Going through tough times:

Despite years of success and growth, Twitter board asked CEO Dick Costolo to step down from his post back in 2015. This is due to the company losing $162 million in the first quarter despite a rise in overall revenue. It's a tough business, especially with Facebook and others giving stiff competition. However, Twitter in itself is very unique, so it won't go away for a long time to come.
