Lead Minecraft developer Jens Bergensten shares that both the mobile and Windows 10 platforms will get the new power tools, according to CNET. Microsoft reports that the mobile, Windows, and game console versions will also get "mods."
Serious gamers will enjoy the changes to the sandbox video game as millions of players can go beyond standard Minecraft games. This is a key for it to remain the top block-building title and stay ahead of Lego.
Command blocks are a powerful tool for pro Minecraft players for doing tasks such as changing the weather and teleporting, according to Engadget. Meanwhile, mods add content to the game to change gameplay or give players more options about how they can interact with the Minecraft world.
The mods and command blocks have helped Minecraft to become an educational tool to teach children lessons about various topics including architecture and coding. In fact, the company is developing an Education Edition based on MinecraftEdu that will roll out this summer.
In related news Microsoft's HoloLens augmented reality (AR) headset with a price tag of $3,000 recently started shipping to developers.
The OS giant is developing a special version of Minecraft for the AR device that allows players to build worlds by using their voice and gestures. Microsoft demoed the new Minecraft at last year's E3 and showcased a full Minecraft universe that appeared on a table.
During the demo the hologram stayed on the table as a person walked around the furniture to interact with different Microsoft objects, by using voice commands and "air tap" gestures. This would bring the blockbuster game to HoloLens users by using a controller to avoid virtual creatures as they walk around their living rooms.
Microsoft acquired Minecraft from its developer Mojang in 2014 for $2.5 billion. Mojang has sold over 70 million copies of the popular game.
