In 2015, Amazon gave out the technology that was used to make the Alexa speaker. The technology behind the voice that gives power to its Echo speaker was kept open to the third-party hardware builders and developers.
Amazon opened the technology to others with the intent to encourage them to use this technology and put it together into their own hardware and create something new. A wonderful detailed manual is given on the company's GitHub page for running the Alexa Voice service device on Raspberry Pi. It gives complete step-by-step instructions, right from its set up to the minute when play is pressed. A complete guide is provided that guides users through the different speaker parts for setting up Raspberry Pi.

According to Stephanie Mlot of PCMag India, anyone with good programming knowledge, some idea about shell and the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B can make a real smart audio device out of a mini computer. So it is really possible for anybody to build an Alexa speaker with just one difference. The DIY Alexa speaker has to be switched on by pressing a button since it is not going to have the always-on feature like Amazon's speaker. Clicking on the "Start Listening" switch switches on the speaker and asking a question gives an answer from the robotic voice. Alexa also acts like an alarm and can also play back music.
Amazon's echo speaker is a Bluetooth /smart home hybrid that have a built-in assistant for voice control. It is innovative and very useful for homes. It is a small 3.27 inches around and 9.25 inches high black cylinder in matte, able to fit anywhere due to its small size. There are no color options though. Alexa's echo sounds very organic and natural when compared to other voice control devices.
