While rumors indicate that the upcoming Apple Watch 2 would boast of GPS, a new update has hinted that it might not enough be reason to purchase the device.

Is the anticipated GPS feature of the second generation Apple Watch not impressive? Or, are there other specs that must be checked first before opting for the wearable device?

According to Wareable, there are speculations that the new Apple Watch 2 would come with a GPS chip that would make it "a more serious running mate," but an expert has expressed a different take on it.

"I think Apple will continue to make the watch truly independent for certain types of use cases, including GPS," Wristly CEO Bernard Desernauts said.

However, Silicon Valley iPhone and iPad developer Stephen Leech somehow questioned the theory of the largest independent Apple Watch research platform. Accordingly, the GPS feature of the second generation smartwatch might not reach "beyond basic distance."

"I don't think that specification for the phase 2 eSim will be finalized in time for the new wearable's release, so GPS could still be limited for users," Leech said.

Meanwhile, 9to5 Mac reported that Apple's partnership with Nike would be among the things to look forward to in the device.

With its rebranded app now known as Nike+ Run Club, users of the upcoming Apple wearable would experience "quicker access to information like run time, distance and location."

"Whatever your goal, your Nike+ Coach has a plan for you," Nike said. "One that STARTS with your goals and fitness LEVEL, and ADAPTS as you progress."
