Google+ is getting a few updates. Google would be issuing automatic upgrades for the application to every user.  Despite the updates, Google+ is still dropping some of its services.

Google first revealed the preview of the new Google+ back in November 2015. The new application puts greater focus on Communities (which allows people to chat in groups) and Collections (a way for groups to post by topic).

Currently, Danielle Buckley, Google's project manager, announced that the redesigned Google+ would include three major updates. First, Google has sought to make it easy for users to participate in social media discussions. Google+ now allows users to comment using photos and animated gifs.

The biggest update, Buckley said, would be how Google+ will slowly be slowly integrating its "Collections and Communities" services into the "Google for Work" services. Since the service was introduced, employees and business professionals have been using it to share ideas and communicate.

How Google+ continues to exist as a social media platform is beyond comprehension, according to Gizmodo. Google reported that there are about 300 million users on Google+. However, a study conducted by Stone Temple Consulting found that less than one percent of these users are active.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai told Forbes earlier last year that Google+ might be broken down into smaller components. The move started a month after Pichai's announcement when Google Photos broke free from Google+.

The latest upgrades could keep Google+ alive and attract potential users. However, the discontinuation of other Google+ services is still ongoing. The next service to be discontinued is said to be the Google+ Hangouts, in September.
