Amazon Alexa is boosting its prowess with the growing number of apps in its skills section. The company revealed that its number of the skills has increased threefold since June, to reach the 3000 mark. Alexa is designed to work as a personal assistant which can carry out a number of tasks. Skills are the optional features a consumer can add to their Alexa-powered devices.

Amazon also announced two new skills which have been added to its repository. These skills come from GE and Food Network. According to Tech Crunch, the skill from GE is called Geneva, and it allows the users to control their Wi-Fi connected GE appliances using Alexa commands.

The second skills from Food Network lets users the ask Alexa about the airing schedule of specific shows. According to Slash Gear, Alexa can also be used for collecting recipes from shows being watched.

Amazon also revealed three new skills, due to arrive by the end of this month. The first skill comes with Bloomberg which allows users to check stock prices in the US and international markets. It also lets them listen to the Bloomberg Minute.

The second skill is from Yahoo Fantasy Sports and lets users track their fantasy leagues. The third skill is from What to Expect, Pregnancy & Baby. This skill lets expecting parents to get customizable tips and updates throughout their pregnancy and a year after.

Alexa now has Skills from major brands such as Uber, NPR, The Economist, and BBC, among others.
