Samsung unveiled its Family Hub fridge - a fridge-tablet combo - that garnered mixed reviews. The fridge sports a 21.5 inch high definition LCD touchscreen tablet in front and is touted to be a smart fridge.
Tech Crunch has labelled the product a "Frankenstein" and mentions straightaway that a refrigerator and a tablet is an unholy combination as they should be bought and used separately. It gives no less than three reasons why the smart refrigerator is a flop.

First, fridge is a long term investment and integrating it with a tablet would come with a need to update it every now and then. Second, it is likely that Samsung would not waste resources updating the software of the fridge-tablet like it does with its other products. Third, unlike smartphones, a user cannot put a password on the fridge and monitor internet access for children.
Tech Hive, on the other hand, believes that the fridge is "amazing" as it focuses on the practical uses of the fridge. The screen on the top right of the 4-door fridge is designed to enable families to have a smart kitchen. Using the screen, they can leave notes for each other, check and synchronize calendars, surf the web, browse some TV, listen to music, just to name a few.
A novel feature of the fridge is that it sports a Groceries app, powered by MasterCard. It is a grocery shopping app that is integrated with the refrigerator. There are cameras within the Family Hub Fridge which captures a picture of the interior every time the door shuts. These photos are stored in Samsung Smart Home app and allow one to shop for all that one's fridge lacks.
Digital Trends reported that the Samsung Family Hub Fridge is likely to be priced over $5000. Samsung has also clarified that the purpose behind Family Hub fridge was not just to combine a tablet and a fridge, but to make a refrigerator more useful.
Only user reviews will tell how successful or otherwise Samsung had been in fulfilling this purpose.
