Logitech is speculated to have paid $13 million to Mad Catz for Saitek. Mad Catz acquired Saitek in 2007. According to Engadget, the acquisition would help Logitech to gain a foothold in the growing VR landscape.
Saitek specializes in manufacturing high-quality simulation hardware and may assist Logitech to develop state-of-the-art peripherals for various simulation games. Saitek is behind popular devices such as the X-52 and X-55. Saitek was involved in developing customer controller for Star Citizen. However, it is not clear whether the company will continue the effort after its acquisition by Logitech.
According to Logitech, the acquisition will help the company to offer better simulation gaming hardware to the users. Speaking of its dedicated controllers, Logitech claims that the controllers may greatly enhance VR experience. The company also talked about its upcoming gaming wheels which may be used for driving simulation games.
Logitech bought Saitek at a considerable discount, given that Mad Catz bought the company for $30 million only a couple of years ago. However, Mad Catz had been in turmoil. Early this year, its CEO resigned ahead of its annual earnings report. The resignation was followed by the news that the company is laying off 37 percent of its staff.
