Opera 40 is the first browser with in-built VPN.

Opera has released its new browser with built-in unlimited VPN service, making it the first browser with such a feature.

The feature was initially launched in April on the browser was later extended to its Android and iOS apps. The rollout was available only to the developers, but with its latest update, the Opera 40 is available to all the users of the desktop version of the app.

Opera said that more users would be inclined to use VPN if they become aware of how the internet truly works.

Krystian Kolondra, head of consumer products at Opera, explained in a blog post that "we hope that by making our browser VPN free and easy to use, it will become an essential tool for everyone." Opera 40 now supports Google's Chromecast streaming dongle. This feature is likely to attract new users to the browser.

The Opera browser offers free and unlimited anonymous surfing. The company clarified that its VPN service is an independent company which operates under Canadian privacy laws. According to PC World, Opera uses a 256-bit AES encrypted connection to provide a secured access. Opera's new feature is easy to use. The VPN icon is placed in the address bar. If it is not available, then users need to head to 'Settings' to turn the feature on.

The Opera browser offers various other services such as battery saving and native ad blocking. However, the use of in-built VPN may increase the loading time for websites.
