Apple and Samsung have long been embroiled in a bitter patent fight. The battle has entered a new phase with a US court reinstating Apple's $119.6 million claims against Samsung. The court stated that a panel's ruling to quash the verdict in February was wrong. The Supreme Court will be considering a second case between the two companies next week.

The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled that the February decision to throw out the $119.6 million verdict was wrong. The said ruling was made by a panel consisting of three judges. The Court of Appeals has now asked the trial judge to see whether the award needs to be increased to compensate for any willful infringement by Samsung.

Apple is also fighting another case against Samsung, accusing the Korean company responsible for copying patented designs for the iPhone. This case is scheduled to be heard in Washington on Tuesday. The current $119.6 million case is related to infringement of patents related to various features such as autocorrect, slide-to-unlock function, and phone number detection.

The original verdict was delivered in May 2014. The court ordered Samsung to pay damages to Apple for using its technology without due permission. The bulk of the compensation, which is related to the quick links and detection feature, amounted to $98.7 million in damages.

Apple has also been found guilty of infringing a Samsung patent related to digital photo technology. The company was ordered to pay $158,400 to Samsung in compensation. In December last year, Samsung paid $548.2 million to Apple in another patent case.
