Scientists have suggested that the earth-like planet 'Proxima B' could host alien life.
In a new study, researchers have concluded that the closest Earth-like planet, Proxima B, could contain just the right conditions to sustain extraterrestrial life. Based on this scientists suggest that the discovery of alien life could be close.
Earlier this year, an astronomer from Queen Mary University of London, Dr. Guillen Anglada-Escude, led a team of astronomers who discovered water existing on the planet. Proxima B, a planet 4.25 light-years away from the Earth, was first discovered in August.

Dr. Anglada-Escude suggests that the Proxima B exists in a zone far away from the sun, enough for the water not to freeze nor boil. The team told The Sun that the liquid ocean is estimated to be 200 kilometers (124 miles) deep, surrounded by a thin and gaseous atmosphere. Aside from the water, scientists added that the planet could have a solid center.
The astronomers also added that "The Planet [Proxima B] may very well host liquid water on its surface, and therefore also some forms of life."
Nick Pope, who formerly ran Britain's defense ministry's UFO investigation department, said that the recent findings hint at the possibility that aliens may exist. He added that "Every effort should be made not just to find out more about this planet, but to look for evidence of life - and maybe even intelligent life."
However, the researchers mentioned that there were limitations to the research. Since Proxima B was studied based on mathematical models, it only leads to educated and best-guest estimates. Unless advanced equipment are used, the findings remain theoretical.
In the efforts to extend the research on Proxima B and the possibility of alien lifeforms, the James Web Telescope from NASA is scheduled to be launched by 2018 so scientists can further investigate the planet's atmosphere.
