Samsung Produces 10nm Chip for Galaxy S8

Samsung has reportedly started the mass production of the new system chip which produces semiconductors using 10 nanometer technology. Samsung Electronics VP Jong Shik Yoon said "The industry's first mass production of 10nm FinFET technology demonstrates our leadership in advanced process technology."

The 10nm process involves an advanced 3D structure with improvements in design and process technology which are much higher than the 14nm process. It is expected to come with a 27 percent performance increase and 40 percent power consumption decrease.

The Galaxy S8 is speculated to use the 10nm chips with the VR technology. It is rumored to come with the Exynos 8895 with ARM's new Mali-G71 for its GPU. However, other rumors claim Samsung will use a dual camera set-up on the Galaxy S8 Plus rear and could possibly come with the next-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 processor. Whichever processor Samsung will use it will certainly feature an increased RAM for improved virtual reality support.

According to Inquisitr, Samsung will launch two Galaxy S8 models: a 2K 5.1-inch display and a device with a 5.5-inch 4K screen called Galaxy S8 Plus. Both are expected to sport curved Super AMOLED displays without the edge branding this time. The resolution is said to be at 3,840 x 2,160 with a pixel density of 806 pixels per inch (ppi).

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus at the Mobile World Congress 2017 on Feb. 26 as it also launched the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge at the same trade show this year.
