CarPlay is a new way to connect an iPhone to a car’s infotainment system.
Apple has officially begun its in-car technology and the infotainment space feature by offering a product called CarPlay.
The Cupertino-based tech giant released a complete list of car models that now natively support the use of its CarPlay iPhone mirroring interface. With CarPlay expanding throughout the automotive industry, Apple has finally launched a dedicated website to track which car makes and models now support the standard.

Unveiled at Apple's WWDC conference in June 2015, CarPlay is a new way to connect an iPhone to a car’s infotainment system, letting the driver access smartphone functions like music, messaging, calls, navigation, etc. Vehicles equipped with CarPlay will sync to an iPhone via the Lightning Connector, The Verge reported.
CarPlay will pull data directly from an iPhone, while charging it, and will allow the driver to control and interact with your iPhone through the vehicle. The steering wheel of CarPlay-enabled vehicles will have a dedicated voice-control button, though CarPlay's main appeal-factor will shine through the electronic equipment and touchscreen interface mounted in the dashboard.
The driver will use traditional buttons and dials in the vehicle to interact with the iPhone, as well as touch and voice controls. Perhaps of greatest interest to broadcasters is the fact that CarPlay will stream music, podcasts, audiobooks, and iTunes Radio from an iPhone and a car's stereo, and it will even let the driver access music and other audio content through third-party apps, like Spotify and iHeartRadio.
The software has a lot of room for improvement. The iOS 9.3 update brought some new features to CarPlay, like the ability to use the "Nearby" function in Apple Maps to search for friends while driving, but CarPlay still only works by plugging in your iPhone and not over Bluetooth.
Compatible with iPhone 5 or later models running iOS 8 or above, CarPlay, also enables hands-free use of Siri, Apple's voice-enabled assistant, according to Computer World.
Apple's list of CarPlay-enabled vehicles includes over a hundred 2016 and 2017 models from 21 auto manufacturers, including Audi, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Citroën, DS Automobiles, Ferrari, Ford, GMC, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Opel, Porsche, Peugeot, Seat, Skoda, Suzuki, Volkswagen and Volvo.
