The new update adds the ability of posting a direct reply from the notifications. This feature is available for iOS as well as for Android. The Android Nougat update will let users split the screen. With this function, users can multitask as they can combine chatting with internet browsing or watching videos.

Google plans to phase out Hangouts by introducing Allo and Duo chat apps. These apps are designed for consumer markets, whereas Hangouts is likely to be positioned for the enterprise market. Allo was introduced in May this year, and the product was formally launched in September. The company has not provided any user stats so far.

The chat app may be used in regular mode or incognito mode. However, the incognito mode does not have functions such as Google Assistant or Smart Reply. The app has courted controversies as the company was criticized for keeping the default option for end-to-end encryption at off. The app was specifically criticized by whistleblower Edward Snowden.
