A report by US analytics firm Slice Intelligence has revealed that the US witnessed the highest sales of online headphones in 2016 on the day that Apple launched its wireless headphones called AirPods.
Since its release on December 13, the AirPod, worth $159, has captured over 25 percent of the wireless headphone market. Further, 75 percent of all headphones sold online in the country in the month of December were wireless.
Apple's AirPods impressive sales even on Cyber Monday and Black Friday could be attributed to the fact that the headphones had a pretty limited launch in retail stores due to low supply because of manufacturing delays, the report said
Before the AirPods, Apple was already dominating the wireless headphone market thanks to the various wireless models of it's Beats headphones. According to Slice's data in 2015 and 2016, around 24 percent of wireless headphones sold online belonged to the Beats brand.
Also, according to Slice's analysis, nearly 75 percent of the headphones purchased online in the holiday season were wireless. Therefore, the report said, the headphones continue to gain Bluetooth connectivity.
More and more phone manufacturers are making their phones without the headphone jack, and it is clear that wireless earbuds are in a period of growth.
