Meet the 2017 Jeep Compass Limited with a clear view of the signature seven-slot grille design.

Jeep is preparing to conquer the world as it prepares to launch its new generation 2017 Compass. Designed to replace the outgoing Compass and Patriot, the 4.4-meter vehicle that squarely fits between Renegade and Cherokee is expected to become the brand's best-seller worldwide.

But before anything else, take this as a warning to avoid confusion: there are two 2017 Jeep Compass - the old model and the new model. Although the two share the same name, they completely differ in platform, plus the new one is thoroughly modern.

Here's a quick lowdown about the upcoming 2017 Jeep Compass.

1. One engine, three transmissions choices (and two drivetrain for North America)

Front-wheel drive models come either with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel-drive models are available in a six-speed manual or the ZF-sourced nine-speed automatic, according to Motor Trend. Only the Sport (FWD only) and Latitude (FWD or AWD) models will come with a stick shift.

2. Designed for both on-road and off-road duty

All the three models - Sport, Latitude, and Limited - sit low to the ground, with bumpers designed not for rock-crawling prowess. They are equipped with an optional all-wheel drive system and street-oriented tires. However, if you prefer crave for some greater off-road capability, get the 4WD Trailhawk, which has the same engine but could overcome challenging courses like hills and rocks. It has a 5.8 inch ground clearance and can survive through 19 inches of water, the Freep reported.

3. Expect the signature seven-slot grille

According to Motor Authority, the grille design for the 2017 Compass is just for aesthetics purposes, thanks to its Tigershark 2.4 liter four-cylinder gas engine. It does not really need much fresh air.

4. Fuel efficient

The new 2017 Jeep Compass is dubbed as one of the most fuel-efficient crossover lineups currently available in the market. In fact, all models are rated over 30 mpg on the highway and 25 mpg combined. Sitting on the thriftiest end is the base front-drive, stick-shift model that runs at 23 mpg on cities, 32 on highways, and 26 if combined. At the opposite end of the range is the all-wheel drive model equipped with the nine-speed automatic. It runs at 22 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 25 combined.

5. All these new features come with a price

The new 2017 Jeep Compass model in the base 2WD Sport trim level is priced at $22,090, while the AWD model has a $1,500 premium. For comparison, the old 2017 Jeep Compass model starts only at $20,935. Meanwhile, the mid-range Latitude will be priced at $25,390, while the all-wheel-driven Trailhawk at $29,690. And the range-topping Limited AWD is poised to cost $30,990. All prices include shipping, Car Scoops reported.

6. Four countries are manufacturing the new 2017 Jeep Compass

North American consumers will receive Compasses made from Toluca, Mexico, while Latin Americans from Brazil. China, on the other hand, will source its own units. India will assemble the right-hand-drive models for countries like Australia and South Africa.
