In-game trophies are nothing new in modern games, but "NieR: Automata" lets players purchase achievements with the use of the currency found within the video game. However, reports state that players can only buy the trophies on their third playthrough.
Youkatei, a Reddit user, revealed the discovery in a post. Once in the third playthrough, players are assumed to have already experienced all the game has to offer, which means grinding for extra cash to purchase trophies of which could not be earned.
Many players within the "NieR: Automata" gaming community have already commented in Youkatei's post. A lot of which find the concept interesting, but there are some who do disagree with the idea.
One Reddit user by the name of RukePie commented, "A third playthrough is fair, you've seen most of what the game has to offer so to be able to grid your way to the platinum is an interesting idea."
Another Reddit user, AkodoRyu, states that he is not a fan of the idea. In-game achievements are supposed to be challenging and rare to unlock, and not grindable, according to the user.
While still on the subject of the game's trophies, an achievement called "What Are You Doing?" can easily be unlocked, even without the use of in-game currency. Players would just have to try and peek at 2B's undergarments a few times by adjusting the game's camera.
In other news, earlier reports explain that Xbox One owners will not be able to get a copy of the game as it will not be released for the platform. At the time of writing, only PC and PlayStation 4 owners can enjoy the game.
Developers of the title explain that the market for Xbox One is not that big in Japan, so they pulled back on the release of the video game for the platform.
In the meantime, "NieR: Automata" is scheduled for a US release on March 7. The game's release in Europe will follow three days later on March 10.
