Ultimate HIV and AIDS cure remains elusive up to know. Researchers are still looking for the final solution to HIV/AIDS, which may include the use of the so-called alternative medicines.
Every year, reports of medical breakthrough surface online, almost each promising to bring a functional cure for the dreaded disease. In spite of the technological advancements being made, there are some group of researchers who are trying to examine traditional Chinese herbal medicine as potential HIV and AIDS cure.
In a previously unreported study back in the early 2000s, there were some AIDS patients who are now in good health, according to Eureka Alert. Based on the said study, nine people were treated with a formulation of a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, starting 2001 to 2006. As of now, the patients still have low or almost undetectable HIV in their systems.
In view of the given facts, scientists and other medical experts are intrigued by the outcome of the said study. Editor-in-Chief of AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses and Professor of Cell and Molecular Biology at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, Thomas Hope, believed that there should be some effort to explore this phenomenon further.
However, in contrast to the view of some experts, the World Health Organization issued a warning concerning traditional and complementary medicines. The Western-established organization emphasized that antiretroviral therapies should be the only treatment to be used in addressing HIV/AIDS.
"[WHO] only recommend antiretroviral therapies for the treatment for HIV based on systematic reviews of available evidence. Traditional and complementary medicines may have an adjunct role in improving overall patient well-being," HIV Plus Mag quoted the World Health Organization as saying.
However, despite the stern warning, many individuals are still using traditional Chinese medicines and other complementary medications as a form of HIV and AIDS cure. Most of the users and some physicians believed that with the help of traditional medication, emotional well-being and immune system health are being improved.
