Google is currently working on getting LG's flexible Oled Technology to be incorporated in the upcoming Google Pixel smartphone. An offer of $880 million investment is being negotiated with LG Electronics for the said technology.
As Google aims to step up the features and specs of Google Pixel, Google now wants to incorporate OLED in its next Pixel smartphones. There are already discussions going on between the two parties, and the initial investment offer might still increase. It is clear that Google wants to secure a stable supply of flexible OLED innovation which LG is currently producing.
The next generation Pixel will have the same feature as Apple Watch and LG Electronic watch line-up, however, currently doesn't have the capacity to produce units for smartphones. If Google will be successful in the negotiation, the Google Pixel might become a flagship phone.
Presently, Google Pixel and Pixel XL are using the Samsung's AMOLED technology, which is also supplied Samsung itself. The bendable OLED will be incorporated to several upcoming smartphones, in which Samsung is also said to supply Apple for its upcoming iPhone 8.
With Google aiming for the OLED feature, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Pixel might be in a heated competition once these two devices hit the market. It is reported that Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will both have a bendable OLED panel. But until then, LG has yet to consider Google's offer and has not yet signed a contract.
