The LG G5 smartphone was officially unveiled on Feb. 21, just a day before the opening of the 2016 Mobile World Congress, following several months of unverified leaks and rumors. Now, the biggest question puzzling consumers and experts the release date of the device as well as its price tag.

During the announcement of the LG G5, LG did not reveal whether it plans to release the device on a pre-order basis.

Within hours following the official confirmation of LG that the G5 smartphone is indeed real, all major United States network providers confirmed that they will offer the phone. AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint and US Cellular all confirmed that the LG G5 will be available on their network.

During the announcement event, LG said that the release date of the LG G5 will be a major event in the tech calendar. Additionally, the company plans to simultaneously launch its latest flagship device on several regions.

According to PC Advisor, the LG G5 will be released sometime in April and pre-order will commence in March.

As expected, the LG G5 sports some of the most high-end specs in today's tech platform. At its heart is the eight-core Snapdragon 820 processor from Qualcomm with 4GB of memory, the latter being a well-accepted trend in terms of premium smartphones.

The LG G5 has a 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel dual camera configuration, both installed at the back of the device. The latest flagship smartphone from LG is housed on a new premium metal design which adds another layer of aesthetics into the device.

According to The Verge, the LG G5 sports a 5.3-inch Quad HD screen, a fingerprint scanner and an 8-megapixel front facing camera. The device runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

The most interesting feature that draws a lot of attention to the LG G5 is its modular design. LG is introducing a very innovative idea when it comes to smartphone longevity. With its new modular design, users can change some hardware specs of the device without changing the unit as a whole. This means that users can easily integrate new accessories or hardware once they become available on the market.

As for the pre-order status of LG G5, the South Korean company has yet to establish a definite time line. On the other hand, US retailer Best Buy recently confirmed that the LG G5 will be available for pre-order on its stores come March 18.
