Fresh rumors suggest that Windows 10 Mobile update may hit Windows Phone 8.1 devices as early as next week.
Microsoft had announced Windows 10 for desktop PCs in July last year. However, the mobile version of the operating system was announced later in November 2015. At that time, the Redmond based firm had stated that the eligible devices running on Windows Phone 8.1 would be getting Windows 10 Mobile update in December 2015. However, the update was not release last year.
Microsoft had then stated that the software upgrade would be available early 2016. However, the first quarter of this year will come soon to an end but there is no official announcement from Microsoft on the arrival of Windows 10 Mobile. However, the carrier partners of Microsoft are indicating that it will be released soon.
Vodafone Australia has already finished the testing of the software upgrade as its support page for Windows Phone 8.1 devices is showing a status of "testing complete, awaiting confirmation of rollout schedule," MS Power User reported.
At the same time, a moderator of Vodafone Italy has stated on the forum site that Windows 10 Mobile OTA will begin next week starting from March 7. The update will be available for multiple devices such as Lumia 1520, Lumia 635, Lumia 735, Lumia 830 and Lumia 930. However, Microsoft has not confirmed on anything on the statement released by Vodafone Italy.
The Redmond giant has been hinting that the Windows 10 Mobile OS update will be available soon, but till now it has not revealed a concrete timeframe. As of this writing, the only devices that come preinstalled the Windows 10 Mobile are Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL, Lumia 550 and the newly launched Lumia 650.
Since Microsoft has been delaying the arrival of Windows 10 Mobile update, speculations are swirling that the company is no longer interested in the Lumia lineup that it acquired from Nokia in 2014, Phone Arena reported. The company seems to be more focused on Surface Pro tablet lineup. Microsoft is also speculated to launch a Surface branded smartphone later this year.
The Redmond giant is also speculated to launch Windows 10 Mobile ROM for numerous Android devices. Fresh information suggest that Microsoft is building ROMs for Xiaomi Mi 5, OnePlus 2 and OnePlus 3 that will be released later this year.
