Samsung Galaxy S7: Costs Only $255 To Manufacture A Single Phone

It has been revealed that it takes only $255 for Samsung to manufacture a single Galaxy S7 phone.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 is currently selling at $670 in the U.S. However, a market analysis firm, IHS has revealed the actual cost for building a single unit of Samsung Galaxy S7, Recode reported.

According to HIS, the most expensive component of the Samsung Galaxy S7 is its Snapdragon 820 chipset from Qualcomm that carriers an estimate price of $62. In the U.S., the Samsung is selling the Galaxy S7 variant that is fueled by Snapdragon 820. On the other hand, the Galaxy S7 available for the rest of the international markets is powered by Exynos chipset.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 came with a 16 MP camera, but its successor features a 12.3 MP camera that is driven by Dual Pixel technology. The new camera supports superfast autofocus and it carries an estimated price $13.70. The final assembly of the device is estimated to be priced at $5.

Altogether, it costs $255 for building a Galaxy S7. The estimated cost only accounts for the hardware of the device and the price of its software is not known yet.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones were launched on Feb. 21. The Galaxy S7 is an improved edition of the Galaxy S6 that came with a new design last year. The Galaxy S7 does not carry radical changes in its design, but it does come with much desired features.

The Galaxy S6 did not carry IP68 certification that was available with the Galaxy S7 from 2014. However, Samsung Galaxy S7 has been launched with water and dust resistant IP68 certified chassis.

The microSD card slot feature was axed form the Galaxy S6. However, the said feature has returned on the Galaxy S7. It also comes with a new Always-on Display feature that keeps a particular portion always turned on to display notifications and upcoming events, Times of India reported.

Samsung is rumored to be working on a smaller edition of its 2016 flagship. The rumor mill has dubbed it as Samsung Galaxy S7 Mini. It is expected to sport a 4.6-inch display and it will be released to take on the Apple iPhone SE (Special Edition) that is pegged to get announced on March 21.
