Microsoft is partnering with Lowes to make it possible for customers to test out the HoloLens augmented reality device. This is only possible in the Seattle area, which is close to the Microsoft headquarters in Redmond.
What we have come to understand so far, is the fact that Lowes is aiming to have the device in several of its stores for folks to try out. This is a very important thing for Microsoft since it could potentially excite users of the device, according to official blog post.
According to the post, shoppers will be given the chance to use HoloLens to design their kitchen ways they would like to by using holograms. The software giant is hoping this project turns out to be a huge success seeing as HoloLens is far from ready to be gobbled up by consumers.
"Lowe's is using HoloLens to demonstrate variety of design options for kitchen cabinetry, countertops, appliances and features like backsplashes, in visually-rich and interactive way. Lowe's customers will experience holographic representation of completely new kitchen, adjust finishes and options instantly, and share designs easily online," according to Microsoft.
The project will kick off later this month and will include a mock up kitchen to get shoppers started. Shoppers will be able to choose from several different appliances, and the holograms are expected to be of high quality. Furthermore, after designing the kitchen, shoppers will then be given the opportunity to share their work online for all to see.
Folks should be able to customize the kitchen in many ways, so no design should look the same at the end of the day.
While the software giant is trying to woo consumers, the company is currently working with developers. HoloLens is being sold for $3000, according to CNET, but such a price is targeted at developers who want to be among the first to create apps for this new platform. Microsoft hopes HoloLens will become the next PC, and is also pushing it as a video gaming accessory for both the PC and Xbox One.
With what we have seen thus far, the gaming aspect is the weakest, but anything can change by now and before release date.
