Several leaks have recently surfaced claiming that Samsung is working on a new Galaxy S7 Active smartphone. The rumors about the existence of the device were fueled when a leaked change log of the Samsung Level app listed Samsung Galaxy S7 Active as one of its supported devices.
The Samsung Level app helps enhances audio features especially for Bluetooth headsets. While the leaked change log did list the Galaxy S7 Active smartphone, no additional details regarding what features are supported were provided.
It came as a bit of a surprise for the tech community to found out that Samsung is working on Galaxy S7 Active especially when the announcement of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge handsets were merely months ago. What surprised the tech community even more is the fact that the S7 Active is part of the S7 family of devices.
For the uninitiated, the Galaxy Active devices are known for their waterproof and dust proof features. This series of devices are also known to be more robust models and sports upgrades such as increased battery life.
According to Forbes, rumors are circulating claiming that the Galaxy S7 Active is codenamed Poseidon. Some tech analysts consider the smartphone's codename as a giveaway to the features the device might come with. Some speculations claim that the device will probably sport a higher rating than the IP68 rating scored by the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge handsets.
The notorious leaker Evan Blass who uses the Twitter handle @evleaks also hinted that United States carrier AT&T is in the process of testing a Samsung handset with a model number SM-G891A. To stir the rumor even further, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active has a model number SM-G890A.
Some tech analysts believe that since the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active was already mentioned in a description of one of Samsung's official app in the Google Play Store adds to the authenticity of the rumors circulating in the tech community. The only thing missing right now is Samsung's official announcement of the device.
According to Android Headlines, should the Galaxy S7 Active ever hit the US market, AT&T will most likely be the first to offer the device given its long history of offering Samsung Active devices in the past.
